Pokemon for GameBoy
By Amy | October 1, 2007
Lil’ Mel and Lamont both have a couple of different versions of the Pokemon games for their GameBoy’s. I’m not even sure how many different “colors” there are…but they seem to play those games frequently.
One of their friends plays Read the rest of this entry »

Video Games and Today’s Kids
By Amy | September 26, 2007
For today’s kids, video games seem to take a high priority. Every kid I know from the ages of about 5-19 all seem to have at least one video game system.
My boys have a Nintendo Cube, PlayStation 2, XBOX, XBOX 360, game boys and PSP’s. And, yeah, they want a Wii and PS3 (but daddy will probably get that one first!).
Overkill, right? Probably, but Read the rest of this entry »

Update on the Violin
By Amy | September 19, 2007
If you are a parent…or close to children at all you will probably identify with me on this one…
We instructed Mel to keep his violin in it’s case in his bedroom (actually under his bed so it would be out of the way) when he wasn’t using it. We also told him to play in his room when he felt the need.
Thinking we were being smart by implementing these “rules” so that his little brother, Lamont, wouldn’t try to touch it and inadvertently Read the rest of this entry »

Music
By Amy | September 15, 2007
As you’ve probably figured out by now my oldest son (lil Mel) just started middle school.
Orchestra was his third choice for an elective…and of course the one he ended up with. He was quite disappointed at first Read the rest of this entry »

Guess What Holiday Is Closing In On Us Fast…
By Amy | September 11, 2007
I know it’s only September now…but Halloween is closing in on us pretty fast. Once summer is over, the rest of the year seems to fly by…I have lil’ Mel’s birthday in October along with Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then of course Christmas. So this time of year sets off a chain reaction of time slipping through my hands!
OK…so the point of this post is basically about Halloween. I have to start preparing for it now (at least I’m trying!) since I usually rush out Read the rest of this entry »

Obesity Report Cards
By Cindy | September 10, 2007
I just read an article about Obesity Report Cards in Arkansas. They were the first state to implement this program about 4 years ago.
The premise behind it was to inform students and their parents about the health risks involved with being overweight and obesity. Each year the kids would be weighed and have their BMI evaluated … Read the rest of this entry »

PSP- Play Station Portable
By Amy | September 4, 2007
By now most of us with children know that handheld video game systems are quite popular. As a matter of fact, I can’t name a single kid between 5 and 18 that I know personally that doesn’t have at least one.
Lamont got a PSP for his tenth birthday in July and lil’ Mel got one in August for his elementary graduation and honor roll accomplishments. They haven’t put them down since!
Ok, maybe they have but I see them quite often playing their little games…when we’re in the Read the rest of this entry »

Barbie or Bratz?
By Amy | August 30, 2007
I remember when I was a little girl…I was crazy for Barbie! I had about 20 Barbies, some Ken dolls, Skipper, Gem, and a few other “Barbie” friends. (Ok, if you’re familiar with Barbie…how about Gem and the Rockers? I had every single one including their stage!) I also had the huge dream house, cars, and a wardrobe I still envy to this day!
I always thought she was the “perfect” woman…that long, silky blond hair, big breasts, tiny little waist and perfect hips. I always wanted to be Barbie when I grew up. She had every single career a girl could Read the rest of this entry »

Football
By Amy | August 29, 2007
Football season is upon us now at all levels, and many kids look up to the pros…so I thought we should talk about football in particular along with the pros and role-model situations.
First off, football is a full contact sport which causes it to be of concern to some parents. Football is definitely not a sport for every kid, and mostly Read the rest of this entry »

Back To School
By Amy | August 27, 2007
For many places, children have just gone back to school or are getting ready to go back within the next week or so.
My oldest son, lil’ Mel just started middle school (6th grade) today and even though he thinks he’s all grown now … I still worry about him.
I dropped him off at the front of the school and watched my little man walk inside (holding back the tears and thinking “Where has the time gone???”).
Before I dropped him off, I handed him a cell phone with very strict instructions: Read the rest of this entry »
